Expressions through Drama”

( Continuously producing Marathi Drama - now in its 5th Year - 2010)

Like all plays, this play too is a mirror to our society. Each play raises questions and makes us pause to think.

But how can we make the presentation more dramatic?  Prof. Devdatta Pathak conceives something new every year.

One year it was a mime where actors communicated their emotions without words or dialogues. Amazingly, they spoke volumes without speaking.

The October 2007 presentation, “Adhun Madhun” was a series of seven, fast paced vignettes – each vignette driving its point home like a hammer blow.

In March 2006,  Aamchya Priya Aai-Babaans was presented as a series of letters from children to their parents. Their poignant questions wrung our emotions to hurting point, crying out “Listen to me!!”

Last year’s “ Imaarat Aani Jhopadi” was presented as a flashback; a story of human tragedy, of death through carelessness and the awakening of the human conscience. It was so good that it was specially invited to the Akhil Bharatiya Natya Sammelan at Beed in January 2009. It received a standing ovation and an award!

The one thing common between all our plays is that they leave the parents in the audience with tears welling in their eyes. That emotional response is partly seeing their children perform so wonderfully on the stage. But part of it is due to the underlying themes which mirror a sad reality of society and tug at our heart strings and prick our conscience.

That is the magic of theater. And Prof Devdatta Pathak’s magic touch.

Eighty Students of Std 8  are happy to present a  play

Azhun Hi Anaath Aami”   or   “Lead Me Home”

This year the play ”Azhun Hi Anaath Aami” or  “Lead me Home” is a completely new format. It is a full length drama in nine scenes. In the past we have presented choreographies and mimes and vignettes. But that was theater which was symbolic or suggestive. This year it is Realistic. True stories, true situations presented in a very real manner.

Children get together at a picnic at a fort. While playing and talking they tell us of their loneliness, their insecurities and apprehensions. It appears that despite all the economic progress that we see and hear about, there are many problems hurting us. Society is in trouble. Things are not becoming perfect!

We need to make corrections. But where? Is it with our leadership? Or is it with our education? Or our parenting styles.? Are our families becoming unraveled? Do our value systems need an overhaul?

We worry about our jobs, our business, our wealth or our poverty, our families and our future. The pain and anguish of the orphaned child is symbolic of the our fears we face every day.

We need greater stability in our lives and in our society. Only then will the social fabric become whole again.
